A Notch Above Photography Club
Minutes
December 9 2023

Bill kicked off the meeting at 1:00 with Suzy, Lynn, Bob, Charlie, Clay, and Scott on hand.

As members reviewed the monthly photo contest entries (topic: ICM) Bob reported a balance of $720.04 in the NAPC treasury. Scott’s image ‘Backwoods Trail’ emerged as the winner of our photo contest.

Next was our image editing segment which resulted in a lively discussion regarding editing techniques and the pros and cons of various post processing software programs.

Bill indicated that ‘Reflection Photography’ is the topic for our January photo contest. To help prepare members for this challenge Bill presented a series of reflection images using many of his own images.

Scott demonstrated an image editing workflow which included Adobe Camera Raw, Photoshop, and Topaz Photo Ai.   An interesting highlight was the use of Photoshop’s Generative Fill.

Bill showed a video which discussed ‘a different look at sharpening photos’.

As the meeting winded down members enjoyed a few minutes of free discussion. Scott provided a few suggestions for NAPC meetings in 2024:
– Project meeting agendas several months in advance
– Project photo contest topics several months in advance
– Discuss the purpose of every control on your camera
– Presentation – Art History
– Presentation – Photography History
– Live shoot – still life photo
– Live image edit with member input using On1, Luminar, PS, etc

We wish Tim a complete and speedy recovery following his recent surgical prodedure and hope
to see Tim and Mary at our January meeting.
