March 9th 2019

 

Bob opened the meeting at 1:02 with Bill, Tim, Mary, John, and Scott in attendance.
Bob provided the monthly Treasurer’s Report and indicated a balance of $115.20. A $59 disbursement
was made to renew our Meetup.com account.
Voting for the monthly photo contest winner (Subject: Winter Water) was done next. John Foster emerged as the winner for his pic taken at the Flume. Along with bragging rights John took home a brand new wireless mouse for winning our March Photo Contest. Although only one winner was chosen, all images were superb.
The possibility of adding new features to meetings was discussed. Ideas mentioned include members bringing for discussion
– a favorite image
– a problem image
– a favorite gadget
– a favorite technique (shooting or post processing)
A more in depth critique/discussion of monthly photo contest entries was mentioned and met with approval as were the 4 suggestions mentioned above.
Bob showed a video and provided a handout regarding White Balance and use of a Gray Card. Follow on discussion involved the merits of in camera versus post production attention to White Balance.
Next, the topic of discussion turned to suggestions for 2019 Field Trips. Scott connected to several web sites showing images of Grafton County abandoned buildings, abandoned vehicles and trains,and abandoned covered bridges. Additionally, Scott suggested Night Photography as the subject for a future Photo Contest. Vermont based Brenda Petrella has an excellent 3 part video series dealing with all aspects of night photography and shooting the Milky Way. Also mentioned was a web site enhancement which would automatically transfer Photo Contest entries and text based data in order to update our Meetup.com web page. Lastly, Scott mentioned that Brenda Petrella would make an excellent guest speaker for a future meeting.
Tim presented a video and handout on Deconvolution Sharpening, with a link to free PS actions by Greg Benz.
John has expertise with flash photography using Canon gear. John indicated his willingness to demonstrate flash photography concepts and techniques that he utilizes. This demo would include healthy doses of hands on member involvement.
Members agreed on “Maple Sugaring” as the subject for our next Photo Contest.

The meeting adjourned at 3:45 with this core group of photo enthusiasts looking forward to a rewarding photo club experience in 2019.
