A Notch Above Photography Club
Minutes
November 10th, 2018

The meeting got underway at 1:00 with the following members in attendance:
Tim, Mary, John, Bill, Bob, Peter, Karina, and Scott. We were pleased to welcome
new member, Lucille G.

The meeting progressed as here detailed:

Since our September 8th meeting field trips were conducted to Sabbaday Falls (with potluck cookout) and
a foliage walk in Franconia. Tim suggested the possibility of a Christmas holiday dinner. Karina suggested Colatina’s
restaurant in Bradford as a possible venue and indicated this restaurant has a private room where we could
enjoy the fellowship of a holiday meal. Karina will contact Colatina’s and update us at our November meeting.

Tim announced that the library trustees have agreed to let us display all the photo contest winnners in the main library from our January to February meeting. Members with winners can print their own photo(s), have it done commercially, or Tim will donate his time to do this and charge the club for only ink and paper. The cost would be approximately $5 per print. The treasurer approved this expense, which should total approximately $40.

Our “Topics of Interest” list was passed around for members to indicate their preference for upcoming subjects.

Bob provided a treasurer’s report which indicated a soon to be balance of $275.10. We have previously agreed that club dues are payable once a new member has attended two meetings. We also agreed that yearly dues ($35) will be payable in June.

Bob presented a detailed presentation concerning Time Lapse Photography which included Powerpoint slides and 2 informative videos.
Nice job, Bob.

Tim provided a thoughtful presentation titled Introduction to Post Processing. Resulting discussion dealt with the pros and cons
of RAW vs JPG in camera capture, as well as the learning benefit of both proper critiquing and Post Processing.

Scott conducted a Quick Focus segment concerning Blending Modes which are available in Photoshop and ON1.

Votes were tallied and Bill emerged the winner of our monthly Photo Contest with his image titled “Foggy Sunrise.” Bill, it’s amazing that you captured this most impressive image from your back yard! Very nice!

It was determined that the topic for the November photo contest will be “open.”

The last order of business was a discussion regarding photo critiques. Robert previously indicated his possible willingness to share
his expertise in critiquing and explain a common language for advancing the quality of in camera photo capture, as opposed to
post processing edits. How should in camera capture relate to post processing? A lively discussion then ensued with comments provided by every member. The consensus indicated a desire to establish related guidelines and incorporate this as a recurring monthly exercise. Scott will create a page on NotchAbovePhotoClub.com whereby members can upload images for critical comment and/or requests for help in post processing.

Peter, we’re happy to see you once again. Perhaps you have some new images to share?

Tim thanked members for remembering to RSVP for meetings and events. It is an important aid for planning.

The October 13th 2018 meeting of Notch Above Photo Club was adjourned at 3:30. A special thanks goes out for all members in
attendance and their enthusiasm in making this club a success.

Our next meeting will be held on November 10th. Karina will present a talk on Macro Photography, and guest speaker Joseph Garcia from PurpleFinch PhotoDrone will talk about “The Wonders of Drone Photography”.
